It has been revealed that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen was tied up in a hotel for three days in order to prevent him from joining Liverpool.
Cristiano Giuntoli, Napoli’s director of football, was instrumental in bringing Osimhen from Lille in 2020.
Giandomenico Costi, a previous colleague of Giuntoli, has recently revealed a fascinating behind-the-scenes story.
Costi, who worked closely with Giuntoli for over nine years, called Osimhen’s signing Giuntoli’s “biggest masterpiece.”
Osimhen spent only one season with Lille, scoring 18 goals in 38 games and catching the interest of Europe’s top clubs.
“The signing of Osimhen is Giuntoli’s biggest masterpiece,” Costi told Tuttosport, according to Football Italia.
“He [Osimhen] was imprisoned for three days in a hotel.” Giuntoli was familiar with Liverpool were interested, and Jurgen Klopp had made his move, but Cristiano spent three days in the hotel convincing Osimhen to accept Napoli,” he added.
