Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, has ordered the arrest of Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti in connection with an alleged assault on a police officer in Lagos.
Seun Kuti, Fela Kuti’s son, was seen slapping a police officer on Lagos’ third mainland bridge in a viral video.
Though it is unknown what prompted the confrontation, the police officer remained calm when confronted by the performer.The IG has also ordered a prompt and thorough inquiry into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the alleged attack, as well as prosecution of the suspect.In a social media post seen by our journalist on Saturday night, the musician claimed that the police officer in question attempted to assassinate him and his family.Speaking on the incident, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adéjb, said in a Saturday night statement obtained by our correspondent, “The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform.”
“The IG has also ordered a prompt and thorough investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault, as well as prosecution of the suspect.”
“IG Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated, and those who commit such heinous crimes will be brought to justice.”
