The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has detained 25 drug suspects in various raids across renowned drug joints in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
The accused were apprehended at the New Kuchingoro Internally Displaced Persons Camp, which is located in the FCT.
Femi Babafemi, the anti-narcotics agency’s spokesman, announced this in a statement on Sunday.
“Operatives in Abuja arrested 25 suspects in raids across Tora Bora, Gwarinpa village, Third Avenue in Gwarinpa, Karamo, Garki Market, Sabongari Bwari, and New Kuchingoro IDP camp, all within the FCT,” he said.
The NDLEA spokesperson also disclosed that NDLEA operatives foiled another attempt to smuggle 24kgs of cannabis into Lagos hidden in imported secondhand cars from Canada.
who seized the illegal drug on May 11, during a joint 100% assessment of a container labeled MSMU 7412069 at the Prime Connection Bonded port off the Oshodi-Apapa highway.
“Two clearing agents associated with the container, G.O. Njokwu and Christopher Obialor, were apprehended in collaboration with men from the Nigerian Customs Service,” Babafemi continued.
He further said that two businessmen detained by operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja for cocaine intake expelled 193 pellets of the illicit drug after three days in observation detention.
Onoh Ebere, 49, and Christian Ifeanyi, 47, were apprehended at the Abuja airport on May 10 after arriving from Uganda through Addis Abeba on Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 951.
He stated,
“They both traveled to Uganda and then crossed into Ethiopia to pick up the consignments before returning to Abuja with Lagos as their final destination.”
“After days in the excretion room, Ebere Onoh excreted a total of 100 pellets weighing 2.137kgs, while Christian Ifeanyi expelled 93 pellets hidden in his stomach with a gross weight of 1.986kgs,” the report said.
Meanwhile, Babafemi stated that NDLEA operatives stormed two known drug dens, Zaro bunk on Bama Road, Sabongari, and the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, both in Kano, where 160 individuals were apprehended with various amounts of illicit substances.
In addition, two suspects, Abubakar Sallau, 55, and Nazifi Abdullahi, 25, were apprehended on Saturday, May 13, along the Kano-Maiduguri Road carrying 5,000 Tramadol pills.200mg, and 65,200 Tramadol and Exol-5 tablets were recovered from Adamu Nagati, 30, and Ali Nasiru, 35.
