Valencia have been sanctioned with a five-match partial stadium shutdown following racial abuse of Real Madrid player Vinicius Jr.
Three persons have been arrested in Spain in connection with the abuse aimed at the Brazilian at Mestalla Stadium on Sunday.
Valencia was also fined 45,000 euros (39,000 pounds).
Vinicius’ late red card has been overturned, thus he will not face a ban.
Valencia has described the decision to partially close their stadium as “disproportionate, unjust, and unprecedented,” and has stated that they aim to challenge that component of the sentence.
“Valencia have collaborated from the first minute with the police and all relevant authorities to clarify the events that occurred,” a statement from the club read.
“In addition, we have applied the maximum possible sanction with the ban for life from our stadium for racist behaviour of the fans identified by police.”
