Justice Adeola Olatubosun of the Chief Magistrates Court in Yaba, Lagos State, has deferred the trial of Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti to Wednesday, May 24, 2023.

The trial, which was scheduled to begin today, May 23, 2023, was alleged to have been postponed due to the judge’s absence from the court, according to a source who requested anonymity.

“The trial has been adjourned until tomorrow, May 24, 2023, because the judge is not available,” according to the source. Attempts to reach Seun Kuti’s manager were futile as of the time of this report because his phone was turned off.

When PUNCH contacted Seun’s elder sister, Yeni Kuti, who is currently abroad of the country, she stated that, as of theShe was unaware of the adjournment at the time of this report.

“I am unaware of the adjournment; his wife has not contacted me today; she has not sent me an SMS to that effect; and none of them have sent me a text.” But I’ll phone the wife now, and you can call me back in 10 minutes,” Yeni said over WhatsApp to PUNCH.

As previously reported by Naijaloaded, Seun Kuti was detained for attacking a police officer on the Third Mainland bridge, causing the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, to order his detention.

The afrobeat musician eventually surrendered to the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja, accompanied by his lawyer and family representative, and was later arrested He was eventually jailed at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti.
