Brentford striker Ivan Toney received a reduced ban from football due to a gambling addiction.
Toney was suspended for eight months earlier this month after admitting to breaching Football Association betting rules.
Toney had a gambling problem, according to a psychiatry expert who testified before the FA’s regulatory commission, and he needed professional help.
As a result, an 11-month punishment was lowered by three months by the commission.
The commission stated in its written reasons for censure, published on Friday, that Toney admitted repeatedly lying during his initial interviews with the FA.
He has subsequently stopped gambling on football, but not on other sports, and is “determined to address his gambling problem with therapy,” according to the statement toney was given a 15 month punishment for attempting to conceal his betting, while knowing it was against FA rules.
