Garba Shehu, President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide, stated on Sunday that his principal’s recent apology to Nigerians does not suggest wrongdoing.
President Buhari recently apologized to Nigerians for his government’s acts and inactions and begged forgiveness.
Shehu, on the other hand, made the revelation during an interview on Channels Television about Buhari’s achievements after eight years in office Insisting that the President has performed admirably, he noted that Buhari is pleased with his accomplishments.
“The President feels fulfilled. He has done exceptionally well as best as he can in the circumstances in which he has found himself. He is satisfied going home for the next president to contribute and build on the foundations he has laid,” Shehu stated.
He further stated that the President’s apology does not imply that he admits any guilt.
“You can’t walk on eggs without breaking them. It is absolutely not possible. So, the apology by President Muhammadu Buhari did not indicate acceptance of wrongdoing on his part,” he added.
Shehu, who indicated that Buhari may have inadvertently upset some people, stated that he is not a wicked person, and that the effort to apologize indicates accountability.
Concerning insecurity, Shehu stated that Buhari has made considerable progress in combating Boko Haram insurgents, and that the military is now better positioned to deal with the country’s security concerns.
“The Army has made so many acquisitions – drone technology etc. So, much has changed and President Muhammadu Buhari will be appreciated, if not now, [it will be] later,” Shehu stated.
