According to reports, the Federal Government has invited approximately 65 foreign dignitaries, including Heads of State, to attend the inauguration of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria’s 16th President on May 29.
On Thursday, a director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to The Punch that numerous African leaders had expressed interest in attending the inauguration ceremony, which will be held at Eagle Square in Abuja.
The director said that 65 world leaders from Africa, Europe, and America will attend the ceremony.
Past presidents, diplomats, chiefs of international organizations, renowned Nigerians, and officials of foreign governments and agencies are also anticipated for Tinbu’s inauguration, according to him.
According to the official, the inauguration ceremonies will commence on Thursday with the investiture ofTinubu was awarded the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR), and Kashim Shettima was awarded the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
Representatives from Nigeria’s traditional allies, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, China, Germany, Finland, Jamaica, Japan, Israel, Turkey, and others, are scheduled to attend the high-profile event, according to him.
“We have 54 African countries, and the majority of them have been invited to the inauguration,” he said, “so we don’t expect less than 65 world leaders from Africa, Europe, and America to attend.”
