A 14-year-old boy named Marvelous Asefon has been charged with murdering his 17-year-old neighbor, Sunday Ogele, over his girlfriend. He was arraigned before an Akure Magistrates’ court in Ondo State.
The teenager was charged with murder by the police.
The defendant committed the crime on April 20, 2023, in the Oka-Akoko district of the state, according to Police Prosecutor Matins Olowofeso.
According to Olowofeso, the defendant killed one Sunday Ogele by slashing him in the rib with scissors following a fight over his girlfriend.
“That you, Marvelous Asefon,’m’ on April 20 Sunday, 2023 at 8:pm at Kanmu, Oka-Akoko in the Ondo State Magisterial District, did kill one Sunday Ogele’m’ 17 years old,” the charge stated in part by stabbing him in the rib with scissors, resulting in his death.”
Sections 319(1) and 316 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 2, Laws of Ondo State, 2016, are violated.
His request was denied.
The Police Prosecutor requested that the defendant be held at the Correctional Centre pending guidance from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
However, the defence counsel informed the court that both parties involved are related and that the deceased’s father had opted for settlement.
Mr. Ogele, the victim’s father, told the court that he had not been approached properly for an out-of-court settlement.
As a result, the sitting Magistrate, Folashade Aduroja, ordered the defendant’s remand and delayed the case till june 11 for ruling.
