The Ondo State Police Command has started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of a mother and her infant inside of their room in Owo, Ondo State.
The couple, identified as Tawa and her husband, were reportedly discovered after going to bed on Thursday night healthy with their infant already dead in the room.
Tawa later passed away in the hospital, and the husband is reportedly in critical condition.
According to a source who spoke with The Punch, the couple had recently purchased a new generator, which they turned on on Thursday night before turning in for the night. This raises the possibility that the generator’s fumes were what caused the incident.
The source claims that the family was met on Friday in a critical condition. The baby was already dead, the couple was unconscious, and they were quickly taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where the wife passed away and doctors battled to save the husband’s life.
Said the source:
“The elder sister of the deceased was concerned when she did not arrive at work on Friday afternoon. She then went to their home with some coworkers to check them out.
“When they arrived at their home, they found the door locked and had to break in forcefully. They were horrified to discover the couple unconscious and their infant already dead. They were hurried to the FMC, where the wife passed away and the husband was in serious condition. “.
The incident was confirmed, but Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the state police command’s public relations officer, said an investigation had been launched because the cause of the death was still unknown.
The PPRO stated.
“At the moment, we are unable to pinpoint the exact cause of the incident. Although an empty bottle of snipper was also discovered in the room, some are claiming that it was caused by generator fumes. Therefore, it’s possible that before going to bed, the couple sprayed snipper in the space. As a result, the matter is still under investigation. “.
