Two police officers have been killed in Kogi State by people who are thought to be criminals.
The officers who died were on a routine patrol along Agbaja road in the Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State on Wednesday when the accident happened.
SP William Ovye Aya, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday afternoon. He said that the bad guys came out of the bush and attacked the team when they arrived for their regular patrol.
Aya said
“The Command lost two people in the gunfight with the bad guys because they ran away before the backup team arrived.
“CP Akeem A. Yusuf, who is in charge of the Kogi State Police Command, sent a team of tactical operatives to the area as soon as he heard about it. They followed the criminals and tried to catch and bring them to justice.”
A police spokesperson said that the Police Commissioner has told the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation, to start looking into what happened.
Aya said that the Commissioner of Police also uses the medium to ask the people in the area to help the Police find out who the hoodlums are so that the Command can stop them from doing bad things.
