Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has talked about his troubled past.

The man of God disclosed that he originated from a very humble family and that, for the first 18 years of his life, his parents were unable to buy him a pair of shoes.

On Sunday, Adeboye delivered a sermon with the title “Perfect Gift” that was streamed live on his Facebook page.

Adeboye discussed how when individuals accepted Christ, their lives would improve. He used himself as an example to show how God can transform the poor into the wealthy.

The eminent cleric declared: “Some of you who know a little about my past know that when people are supposed to come from a rocky background, it refers to a difficult upbringing. My own background was also made up of rocks. Because of how impoverished he was, my father was also known as poor. According to an old proverb, if there is trouble for the wife and husband, then there must also be hardship for the kids.

“The struggle filtered down to me. I didn’t have shoes for the first 18 years of my life. My father was in such need. We were happy when he bought the umbrella, but look at me now. Jesus is able to convert the impoverished into the rich and the unknown into the known.
