Nigerians are warned by NAFDAC about the existence of bogus COVID-19 test kits

On Sunday, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) warned Nigerians about the availability of fake Covid-19 Antigen quick test kits.

The Agency informed newsmen of this in a public advisory distributed on Sunday.

Health Canada informed NAFDAC about the fake COVID-19 fast antigen test kits made by BTNX Incorporated.

According to Health Canada, a distributor by the name of Healthful Plus was selling the phony test kits online in 25-pack cartons without the necessary license.

NAFDAC claims that the packaging of the replica kits is similar to that of the real BTNX Inc. goods in terms of color and typeface and makes use of the BTNX Incorporated logo.

It was noted that although the device’s identifier is “COV-19C25,” there are a number of significant discrepancies, and that “Health Advance Inc.” rather than “BTNX Inc.” was listed as the manufacturer.

The assertion that the products were approved by agencies like Health Canada was brought up by NAFDAC.

The agency recommended consumers, pharmacists, wholesalers, and distributors to make sure their items come from reputable and trustworthy sources.

NAFDAC advised anyone in possession of the fake product to stop using or selling it right now and to turn it in to the agency office that is closest to them.

It recommended consumers and healthcare professionals to notify NAFDAC of any suspected fake medical supplies.

Additionally, NAFDAC recommended the public to report adverse effects through the Med-safety application, e-reporting platforms, and pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng.
