Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, was sad to hear about a crash outside a South London venue where Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ahmed Ololade, who goes by the stage name Asake, was performing.

According to reports, Asake had to end his sold-out show at the O2 Academy Brixton on Thursday because a large number of fans who didn’t have tickets tried to get in anyway.

A police report says that eight people were taken to the hospital and that two others with less serious injuries were treated at the scene.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Asake apologized to his fans and anyone else who had been hurt by the break-in.

He wrote, “My heart goes out to everyone who was hurt or upset last night.” I pray you get well soonest. I am also in the process of getting in touch with people. I still don’t have the full story from the venue or management about what caused the trouble at the Brixton Academy’s entrance.

In a tweet on Friday, the Mayor also responded to the death of one of the hospitalized victims, Rebecca Ikumelo. He said, “I am heartbroken by the tragic death of Rebecca Ikumelo, who died after the terrible events in Brixton on Thursday night.

“My thoughts are still with everyone who has been hurt by this terrible event. The investigation into what happened must be finished as soon as possible. City Hall is in touch with venues and authorities all over London to make sure nothing like this happens again.”
