The Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and other PDP-affected governors have created a peace window, which has been welcomed by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate.
According to DSMEDIA24, Atiku has welcomed indications that Wike and his strategic team are open to finding a long-term solution to the ongoing turmoil that is roiling the party.
Other unhappy State governors include Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) (Enugu).
This information was revealed in a statement provided to newsmen in Abuja by Paul Ibe, the PDP presidential candidate’s media adviser.
His statement says, in part:
“The People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate and former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, welcomes indications that Nyesom Wike and his group are amenable to the resolution of the difficulties with the PDP candidate, according to sources.
In addition, Atiku Abubakar declares his dedication to a dialogue that would end the crisis of confidence and prepare the way for a PDP that is more stronger and more unified.
He exhorts all party leaders and members, regardless of their political views, to maintain an open mind and support efforts to resolve the current problems.
Remember that Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta State, was chosen as Atiku’s running mate for the general elections in 2023 as a result of the results of the party’s presidential primaries, pitting Wike and four other governors of the party against Atiku.
In order to resolve a structural imbalance of the party’s national executive that is allegedly biased in favor of the north against the south as it is currently set up, the G-5 also demanded the resignation of Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the party’s national chairman.
