The Bayelsa State Emergency Management Agency (BYSEMA) has said that 96 people have died and that 1,344,014 people have been directly affected by the devastating flood in the State.

Official data released on Monday also showed that 1,210,183 people had to leave their homes.

DSMEDIA24 found out that 26 people died in Yenagoa, the capital city of the State. This is the highest number of deaths so far.

The official data was confirmed by the State’s SEMA Chairman, Hon. Walaman Igrubia said that they were still putting together data from the field and that the heavy flood had damaged a number of farms, schools, hospitals, and other buildings.

He also said that the flooding hurt a number of communities in all 8 Local Government Areas of the State.

Igrubia made it clear that SEMA and other agencies’ first reports and data show that Bayelsa State is still the most affected by flooding in the country as a whole.

The head of SEMA said he was glad to hear that Hajia Sadiya Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, now agrees that Bayelsa State is one of the top ten most affected states.
