Presidency: Ortom Free To Support Atiku Or Anyone Else

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, has responded to Samuel Ortom’s personal attacks on him.

Atiku insisted that Benue is his home and that it is impolite for Ortom to hold him responsible for the armed Fulani attacks on the residents of Benue State.

Due to the atrocities in Benue State, Ortom had pledged never to vote Atiku for president.

The governor emphasized that he couldn’t support a Fulani leader since herders were attacking state citizens, telling them to “hell with Atiku.”

In response, Atiku said that in 2023, the governor is free to support any candidate of his choosing.

On Tuesday, he spoke via Dino Melaye, the spokesperson for his presidential campaign.

Melaye stated during an appearance on Arise TV that “Ortom is entitled by right to support whichever candidate he wants; it’s not proper to place the blame of what is happening in Benue on Atiku; it is not fair.” Four Benue natives were chosen as ministers during the Shagari administration. The late Yar’Adua also named a Benue native as AGF. Despite being Fulani by ethnicity, these two presidents appointed people from Benue.

Melaye declared: “It’s uncivil to blame Atiku for Fulani actions; this is wrong and improper.”

He continued, “Atiku contributed N50 million to IDPs in February of this year; he shows compassion to the people of the state. For Atiku, Benue serves as a second home.
