Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has asked Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to let him win Rivers State in the presidential election. The Labour Party will support PDP in the governorship election, but it wants Obi to win Rivers State in the presidential election.
Obi made the call at the opening of the Nkpolu Oroworukwo flyover in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Obi said he won’t run against the governor for the state’s governorship, but Governor Wike should also let him win the federal election.
Obi says that if he becomes president, Rivers State’s interests will be well looked after.
Obi said:
“I’ll talk to my people, and we’ll come to an agreement. If we give him (Wike) the state, he will give us the center. We’ll talk about it.”
Obi went on, still talking about Wike:
“We’re not going to fight with you. Please give us the one in the middle and take the other one (state). Rivers state, I’ll make room for them in the other one.”
“Today, remember this deal. I’m on my knees begging you to take this one (state) and give it to me (centre). I promise that the one I will choose will help Rivers State get better and better.”
Obi had called the PDP candidate for governor in Rivers State the “incoming governor” at the beginning of his speech.
