Atiku Abubakar, a presidential contender for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has encouraged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to include the likeness of former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the new naira notes.
Obasanjo’s visage, according to Atiku, ought to be on the naira note in recognition of his efforts to improve Nigeria.
The PDP candidate for president claimed that including Obasanjo on the naira would encourage future generations of Nigerians to make sacrifices for the nation.
Using Twitter, Atiku stated:
“Africa is fortunate to have a leader with Chief Obasanjo’s sterling democratic credentials. a man whose likeness ought to be on the redesigned naira note to motivate Nigerians of the next generation to make sacrifices for their country and continent.
The redesign of the N100, N200, N500, and N1000 notes was recently unveiled by Godwin Emefiele, governor of the central bank.
The new notes would be on sale on December 5, 2022, according to the CBN chairman.
