Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), spoke out against the Central Bank of Nigeria’s plans to change the look of the N200, N500, and N1,000 bills on Friday (CBN).
The respected religious leader said he didn’t like how the Federal Government cares about redesigning the naira even though the value of the national currency is going down.
Adeboye spoke at the church’s Holy Ghost Service in November, which had the theme “Let It Rain.” He also said that the naira isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on because people can’t afford to eat.
“You are aware of what is happening in our country. It doesn’t even make sense anymore. Our naira isn’t even worth the paper it’s printed on anymore,” the clergyman said at the program, which was held at the RCCG’s international headquarters on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“And while people are hungry and trying to find enough money to buy bread to eat, our bosses are thinking about making the naira more beautiful, so even if it can’t buy bread, at least it will look beautiful. Oh Lord, have mercy,” he prayed.
He says that things have gotten more funny in Nigeria. “The country is having trouble right now. Things seem to be getting funnier and funnier. “If you don’t learn to laugh in Nigeria now, you’ll get high blood pressure,” said the cleric.
