On Monday, November 28, 62 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria will be sworn in at the main courtroom of the Supreme Court by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

This is not what was said to happen on November 21, 2022.

In a statement released Monday in Abuja by the Supreme Court’s Director of Information and Press, Dr. Festus Akande, it was said that the earlier date had to be changed to the new date to make room for other events planned for the Court’s new legal year.

The swearing-in ceremony is one of a number of events that will officially start the new legal year for the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2022/2023.

During the legal year, the CJN will give a speech called “State of the Judiciary” to talk about how well the Supreme Court and the Nigerian Judiciary did in the last legal year, 2021/2022.

The statement reminded people that 62 of the 174 people who tried to get the position of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2022 were chosen at the end of the process.

The statement said that 53 of the people were activists and 9 were academics.

After the 2021-2022 legal year, on July 23, 2022, the Supreme Court went on its annual summer break.

Even though the Supreme Court has been meeting since September 12, 2022, the traditional ceremony for the new legal year is now being held.
