APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu has been advised not to select Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State or his predecessor, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate with less than two weeks left until the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for submission of running mates.
In response to a Nigerian outcry, Tinubu is rumored to be mulling a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
According to rumors, Tinubu may choose Shettima or Zulum as his running mate in the next days.
As a stand-in, the APC presidential candidate gave INEC the name Kabiru Masari.
But while time was running out, it was said that Tinubu had changed his mind about both names following extensive consultations with political stakeholders.
Reno Omokri, a devoted supporter of Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate, claimed that the two names cast doubt on Tinubu’s selection of Shettima and Zulum.
In Borno State, Shettima failed to provide security for the Chibok Christian community, according to a former assistant to former president Goodluck Jonathan.
Omokri charged Zulum with disregarding the state’s Christian community in a series of tweets.
Tweeted Omokri:
Yes, the pastor’s wife of Bola Tinubu is a Christian. Igbo, we no dey trust una again, was she not the same person who stated that? Can such a woman put aside her prejudice towards Igbos, who are primarily Christians and love them, if her husband chooses a Muslim Vice President?
“Shettima was infamous for failing to provide security for the Christian community in Chibok. He declined Wike’s request to transfer WAEC students from Chibok to Maiduguri, who is now the governor of Rivers. Wike was the then-minister of state for education. Can a VP like that defend Christians?
“Zulum, for example, is infamous for doing nothing following the demolition of the EYN Church in Moduganari, during which one of the protesting Christians was slain by his operatives. Shettima is famous for his disregard for Christian neighborhoods. Can they defend Christians as vice president?
