Three men were found guilty of homosexuality by an Islamic Sharia court in Ningi, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, and were sentenced to death by stoning, including a 70-year-old.

The convicts’ trial began on June 14, 2022, after their detention by Hisbah Vanguard members operating in Ningi LGA under the pretense of Adamu Dan Kafi. Their identities were Abdullahi Beti (30), Kamilu Ya’u (20), and Mal. Haruna (70).

They reportedly pled guilt to the charges brought against them. The defendants were sentenced to death by stoning by trial judge Munka’ilu Sabo-Ningi after hearing the witness testimony and their admission of guilt.

He based his decision on both the terms of Fiquhussunah Jizu’i number 2 at page 362 and Section 134 of the Bauchi State Penal Law of 2001.
