The FG proclaims July 11 and 12 as public holidays

as of publication:

The Federal Government declares July 11 and 12, 2022, as a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid-ul-Kabir celebration.

To commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir festival, the Federal Government has announced Monday, July 11, and Tuesday, July 12, 2022, as public holidays.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the interior minister who made the announcement on behalf of the federal government, extends his congratulations to all Nigerians and Muslims on this special day, both at home and abroad.

“Considering the challenges of insecurity we currently face, I call on Muslims to continue to imbibe the spirit of love, peace, kindness, and sacrifice, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), and to use this time to pray for peace, unity, prosperity, and the stability of the country.” Added Aregbesola.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, the minister said, is “dedicated to the security of lives and properties of all Nigerians, the empowerment of citizens for successful living, the provision of social investment projects, and adequate security in the schools.”

While wishing Muslims a happy Eid-el-Kabir, Aregbesola urged Nigerians to take responsibility by using the N-Alerts application to alert law enforcement to any suspicious people or criminal activity they saw nearby.

This is especially important during this festival as N-Alerts has been designed to help mitigate security challenges with prompt response from security agencies.

All Nigerians were urged by him to be watchful and alert for trespassers in their neighborhoods. As we celebrate this year’s celebration, “we must all take responsibility for the security of lives and property,” he stated.

Aregbesola pleaded for all Nigerians to unite, pool our resources, and put our heads, hearts, and souls together in order to reach a state of relative calm for peaceful coexistence and put an end to insecurities in Nigeria.

The Minister assures all Nigerians that the government will uphold the rule of law, maintain law and order, and preserve peace at all times.
