On Tuesday night in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, gunmen in a tricycle broke into a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) lodge, raped the female inhabitants, and stole goods like laptops, cell phones, and cash.
One of the corps members, Emeka Emmanuel, described the incident: “They arrived in a tricycle, often known as Keke, and instantly started operation. They threatened to shoot us if we didn’t cooperate and shone intense torchlight everywhere while pounding on every door with heavy irons.
A female corps member who wished to remain unnamed claimed that after the thugs broke into her room through the back door, they took her money, laptop, and phones.
We were caught off guard, she remarked. They threatened to shoot if the door wasn’t opened right away and shone the torch through the window.
Local resident Bassey Offiong claimed that when he called the police at Ikot Akpanabia, they arrived after the culprits had fled.
SP Odiko Macdon, the state’s police spokesman, responded when he was contacted: “I don’t have any information regarding the incident but I will find out and come back to you.”
