Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been advised to take it easy during the 2023 presidential campaign by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the nominee for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Former defense minister and twice-elected governor of Kano State Kwankwaso advised Tinubu to put his health first and stop stressing about the challenging 2023 elections in an interview with Arise News Television on Sunday.

“Tell my friend Bola to relax and take care of his health if you see him. I love him so much and he is my friend.

“This campaign is quite demanding, it takes a lot of work, and so on. I sincerely hope he will ease up so that we can keep up the fight for a united, wealthy Nigeria, Kwankwaso suggested.

When asked if he feels threatened by Tinubu, Kwankwaso, who served as the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives during the failed Third Republic, replied that while the APC presidential candidate is a good man, he does not know what the candidate would change about President Muhammadu Buhari’s current administration.

“The platform is my main concern. I am unfamiliar with this platform. Bola Tinubu is a decent man, and I am aware that he is a strategist. I had numerous occasions between 1992 and the present to sit with him.

“I hope to meet him so I can ask him what he will tell Nigerians he will do in contrast to what Muhammadu Buhari is doing at the moment.

“That is a very real concern I have for him. Normally, if I can’t acquire it, I can propose him, but it’ll be like starting from scratch.

Let’s take it easy, Kwankwaso insisted. “When I see him, I wish him well, or when you see him before me, tell him I wish him well.”

According to sources, Tinubu announced his pick of Kashim Shetima, a former governor of Borno State and the current senator for Borno Central, earlier on Sunday. This sparked discussions over the propriety or otherwise of a same-faith ticket given Nigeria’s diversity.
