APC Candidate: “Tinubu Shut Me Out After Resigning for Osinbajo”

Dr. Nicholas Felix, a past candidate for the presidency of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed worry that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the party’s flag-bearer, has shut him out of his campaign in advance of the general election in 2023.

Three weeks had passed since the convention at which Tinubu was chosen as the APC’s presidential candidate before Felix’s outburst.

Recall that the youngest candidate for president pulled out of the race and endorsed Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the convention site in Eagle Square, Abuja.

Felix had stated in his statement of resignation that Osinbajo was the best candidate for the position and that he was confident in his ability to permanently change the course of the nation’s fortunes.

But contrary to his expectations, the former governor of Lagos state defeated Osinbajo, Rotimi Amaechi, Ahmad Lawan, and 11 other contenders to win the most prized ticket, according to The Punch.

Asiwaju hasn’t contacted me, Felix remarked. Neither has a representative from his campaign staff. I have not received a call. I’m pretty much the only contender that Asiwaju hasn’t met. I’m not sure why, though. Perhaps it was because I resigned to become vice president or because I opposed the notion of a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

There have been rumors that Tinubu traveled to France to conduct additional discussions over the selection of his running mate.

The Bola Tinubu Campaign Organization’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, responded to a request for comment by saying, “Unfortunately, we all know Asiwaju is not in town. However, Nigerians are aware of the fact that he visited each candidate following the primary. Maybe he wasn’t in the city. He might have been anywhere, like America. I don’t want to get involved in his problems.

“If Asiwaju has not contacted him as he said, I am confident that by the time he returns from France, he will fill in any blanks. We shouldn’t be drawn into that, in my opinion. There’s a chance it was even a mistake. As a politician, he doesn’t disregard anyone or view them as unimportant. I’m certain he wasn’t acting on purpose or with a secret motive. Everyone is significant to him.

Contrary to widespread rumors, Tinubu has denied having a meeting with Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, in France.
