Three People In Jos Are Given Death By Hanging Sentences—You Won’t Believe Why

Three people have been given execution by hanging by a high court in Jos, Plateau State, for the murder of Joseph Gosum.

Justice Arum Ashom, the court’s presiding judge, said the trio had been found guilty of culpable homicide while delivering the historic ruling on Thursday in court 3 of the state high court in Jos.

“You Terry Kefas, Samson James, Emmanuel Jah and Patrick Nyam him December 2015 at Gadabiu in Jos North local government area within Plateau Judicial Division agreed among yourself to cause the death of one Joseph Gonsum by stabbing him to death,” the court declared.

The offense you committed is penalized in accordance with sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code, both of which are included in Cap. 89 of the Law of Northern Nigeria, 1963.

“The prosecution has established its case beyond a reasonable doubt, the court finds. Defense counsel’s efforts to counterargue were insufficiently persuasive.

As a result, the court found the defendants guilty of the accusations and handed down a death sentence of hanging or lethal injection.

Barr Mantu Ishiaku, the plaintiff’s attorney and the deputy director of the ministry of justice’s civil rights reform in Plateau State, praised the court for patiently handing down the ruling in accordance with the law.

Barr. David Adudu, the defense attorney for the accused, said, “I will examine the judgment and make necessary steps to appeal.”
