The Adamawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has elected new officials to hold forth for the next three years.
At the election held on Saturday in the state capital, Yola, Ishaka Donald Dedan returned as the Chairman for the second term.
Dedan, who is of the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), a state-owned radio arm, polled 110 votes to defeat his only opponent, Kate Aliyuda of Adamawa Television (ATV) who got 72 votes.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the NUJ 2022 election, Comrade Bashir Liman, who announced the results at the NUJ Secretariat venue of the election, announced Comrade Fidelis Jockthan of Fombina FM of Radio Nigeria as the elected Secretary.
Jockthan polled 120 votes, as against the 59 received by his only challenger, Filibus Jonathan of Adamawa Press Limited (APL), publishers of The Scope, a weekly newspaper.
The office of the treasurer was won by Joy Diamond Leka of Information Chapel with 116 votes, as against the 66 votes polled by her challenger, Felicia Amos of APL.
The other positions of Assistant Secretary and Auditor were won unopposed respectively by Abdullahi Ibrahim of ATV and Isa Tukur of ABC.
In his acceptance speech, the newly rejected NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ishaka Dedan asked the lady who contested for the same office to join hands with him in efforts to build the NUJ.
