Manchester United won’t place among the top four this year

Paul Merson, a former player for Arsenal, has informed Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, that the current Red Devils squad will not finish in the top four of the Premier League when the new season begins in August.

To contend for a top-four finish in the Premier League, Merson wants Ten Hag to add at least four new players during the summer transfer window.

Ten Hag recently joined Man United after five tremendously successful seasons at Ajax, where the team placed sixth in the Premier League last year.

The Dutchman played an appealing brand of football while at Ajax and won three Eredivisie championships.

Merson, though, thinks that the 52-year-old will have a massive rebuilding task at Old Trafford.

He said to Sky Sports:

“Erik Ten Hag’s current challenge won’t be any harder to overcome if he manages for the rest of his life. This is a significant task. He is taking charge while things are chaotic at the biggest club in the world.

“This team won’t get you in the top four, so he needs to bring in as many players as he can.

They need to add some players, like the talented footballer (Frenkie) De Jong from Barcelona, and then they may advance.

Just to contend for fourth place, they need at least three or four players.
