As 77 people are confirmed to be HIV positive, the Taraba government launches mass testing


The State Agency for the Control of Aids, on behalf of the Taraba State government, announced on Sunday that 77 out of 2156 people who have been tested thus far as part of the mass testing and treatment effort to establish an HIV-free society in Taraba State by 2030 had been confirmed positive.

During the weekly performance review of the Implementation partners working across HIV, tuberculosis, orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in the State, the Agency’s Director-General, Dr. Garba Danjuma, disclosed the information.

He mentioned that 20,200 people in the State who were already HIV victims were receiving regular therapy, while 36,396 were being suppressed through viral means.

“By 2030, we expect that Taraba State will not have any mention of HIV.

Only 77 out of 2,156 people tested positive for the virus during our mass testing and treatment project over the weekend across 16 local government units of the state.

“We examined 359 youngsters aged 0 to 14 years. The 76 out of the 77 casualties have already been connected with various healthcare facilities throughout the State for treatment, according to the DG.

The team leader for (RISE Nigeria), Dr. Joseph Chiegil, applauded the Taraba state government for taking the initiative to achieve the eradication of HIV/AIDS by 2030 through the agency. He also promised that his group will continue to support the agency in its efforts to combat HIV.
